PORTLAND, Ore. — Hillsboro Aviation officially opened its new FBO facility for business in May.
This marks the end of phase two of the company’s 425,000-square-foot expansion at the Portland-Hillsboro Airport (KHIO).
Hillsboro Aviation now boasts a 51,000-square-foot FBO with four acres of ramp space, along with a 32,000- square-foot hangar.
The expansion also includes two 12,000 gallon fuel tanks — one for Jet A and one with a baffle to accommodate both 100LL and LL-alternative fuels — a new addition to the operation’s fueling capabilities after the expansion.
The FAA’s final policy on the non-aeronautical use of airport hangars appears in the June 15th edition of the Federal Register and will take effect on July 1, 2017.
The FAA is issuing the policy to clarify how aviation facilities — including hangars — can be used on airports that receive federal funds. The final policy strikes a balance between hangar use for aviation and non-aviation purposes, according to FAA officials.
